About David & Maggie Hewitt

Wellsprings came into being in 2006, as God spoke clearly to David and Maggie Hewitt, among others, about the 'new thing' He wanted to do in the city and the nation. As part of a house of prayer and worship, the prayer room at Wellsprings is set up to be a place where followers of Jesus from across the region can gather to seek Him together, while remaining linked and committed to the church family or group they are part of (see the prayer room page for fuller details).

Alongside this prayer room, using the upper room, Wellsprings Community has also been emerging as a gathering of local church led by David & Maggie Hewitt. This is to help facilitate the various different aspects of Wellsprings and to 'earth' it in the locality, with a core of people who feel committed to the vision. While being self governing and financing, in the process of acquiring its own charitable status, it retains a relationship with Community Church Edinburgh, recognizing a family link with those that belong there (www.cce.uk.net) . The desire in Wellsprings is for a gathering of believers who value the presence of Jesus above all else, close relationship together and love for those in the wider community we live in, seeking to allow God to give shape to that gathering as He desires and leads.

David is qualified as an architect, graduating in 1980, and has also been in church leadership for many years (David currently serves part-time on staff at Community Church Edinburgh, from where he is being released to develop Wellsprings). He and Maggie have two grown up children. David has built up strong links with several churches in East Africa and in 2001 began the Africa Fund, that currently supports several locally-initiated development projects there (see www.theafricafund.net).

Maggie is passionate about dance in worship and together they co-ordinate the Scottish base for Movement in Worship (see www.miw.org.uk). Maggie also works part-time in Regius School, a Christian primary school based now at Wellsprings (www.regius.edin.sch.uk)

Other members of the Community are developing related visions, such as Tom & Marjory Morrow who are East of Scotland Directors for Healing Rooms, with regular events and training sessions at Wellsprings.
